 PARKERFIELD MARCH 2011 NEWSLETTER

City Council Meeting Thursday March 17, 2011 7:00 PM at the Parkerfield City Building.

City Officials: Listed on the HOME page.

NOTE: OUR CITY MAILING ADDRESS IS NOW 29271 91ST ROAD, PARKERFIELD KS 67005-6685. WE STILL ARE USING THE ARKANSAS POST OFFICE AND BASE ZIP CODE 67005, BUT OUR CITY BUILDING IS AT A PARKERFIELD STREET ADDRESS, NOT, REPEAT, NOT, IN ARKANSAS CITY. WE FOUGHT THAT BATTLE SEVEN YEARS AGO.

There were no January or February Newsletters, as there was little to say.

E-mail Addresses – If you receive the newsletter by U.S. Mail and have an active e-mail address, please advise the City Clerk at dfirebaugh@luvspeed.net of your e-mail address.

City Telephone -   Our new number is 620-442-3506. This is an AT&T published landline number which forwards to the Mayor’s personal cell phone number 620-441-8216. When the Mayor is out of town for an extended period, it will forward to the President of the Council, Deuane Wells.

YELLOW BOOK  - We recently got a call from the Yellowbook Directory people to list the City of Parkerfield on our new 442-3506 number. We made sure this number is listed as Parkerfield, not Arkansas City. The Yellow Book Directory covers Cowley County, does NOT have separate City sections, and lists the City in each phone listing. Phone listings for homes outside a City will not have a City name. All Parkerfield numbers are currently listed as either Arkansas City or have no City. Please call 800-929-3556, menu item #5, and have your listing changed to Parkerfield. So far, only the City Building and the Mayor have Parkerfield listed. Please call and INSIST your listing be changed to Parkerfield.

April Election – three Council positions, three candidates, Sheri Ramirez, Ron Gee, and MaraLynne Schmitz. Polling place for all of the East Creswell Precinct, including the Township outside of Parkerfield is now the Parkerfield Building, not C4 School.

Cans Collection – Keep the aluminum cans coming. Drop them off next to the Mayor’s driveway.  Crushed or non-crushed, we’ll take them all. Thanks to those who do crush. Balance now is $2,000+

Community Building Construction – Building will be used for the April Election, but not totally done. It will, hopefully,  be available for rentals in May. We are still within our $125,000 budget.

Community Building Donations –If you would like to make a tax deductible donation toward the completion of the City/Community Building, contact Mayor Mike on 441-0717.  Over $3,000.00 has been received to-date. This will  help to cover the furnishings, tables, chairs, etc.

PARKERFIELD NEWSLETTER

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!   Parkerfield residents have been wonderful supporters of the new community building and the continued help and donations are greatly appreciated.  For those who travel on 91st and drive past our building you have probably noticed the new flags flown in front of the community building.  Due to the gracious donation made by residents Mike and Barbara Kelly in the memory of their son Andrew Kelly, a new flag pole and American flag now grace the lawn of the Parkerfield Community Building.  Also, residents Mrs. Gilmore and Mrs. Webb generously contributed towards the Kansas flag that is also flown in front of the building.  A heartfelt thank you to these wonderful community members!

The City and members of the community have been hard at work putting the finishing touches to the building.  Several residents have helped out over the last month and we would like to let them know that we greatly appreciate their time.  First and foremost this project would never have been successful without the hard work and dedication of John McDonald.  Who knows how many thousands of hours he has donated towards this building.  With any luck we can now consider him "retired"-maybe.  Also thank you to Ron Gee, Joe Schmitz, Mara Lynne Schmitz, Jeff Musson, Todd Gaskill, and Dorothy Tousley for helping to finish the building.  If I missed someone-sorry.

RENT ME!  The Community Building is available to rent and the calendar is quickly filling up.  If you would like to book the community building or have questions about the building call Mara Lynne Schmitz at 741-0515.

WE NEED.....  The Community Building is in need of a few high chairs.  If someone would like to donate a new high chair or has a gently used one, please call Mara Lynne at 741-0515.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT October 4th   The City will be hosting National Night Out at the Community Building at 6:00 pm.  We will provide hamburgers and hotdogs.  Please bring a dish to pass and tableware for your family. We will have water available, but if you prefer something else to drink, please bring it. We hope to see you there!

Congrats Miss Parkerfield-Kelcey O'Daniel  The City selected Kelcey O'Daniel, daughter of Kelvin and Michelle O'Daniel as 2011 Miss Parkerfield.  Kelcey will be a recipient of a scholarship to Cowley County Community College.  We know she will represent Parkerfield well.

FYI  The Ark City Rotary Club has implemented a fundraising project that provides and places an American flag in your yard on select holidays for a minimal cost.  If you are interested in this opportunity you may call Deuane Wells at 442-2853 for further explanation or to participate.

NEW EMAIL ADDRESS  The City Clerk's new email address is dfirebaugh@luvspeed.net.
