City Officials: Listed on the HOME page.

E-mail Addresses - If you receive the newsletter by U.S. Mail and have an active e-mail address, please advise the City Clerk at furbaw@wildblue.net of your e-mail address. Some residents may have changed ISP providers, and e-mail address, and not advised us of the change. Thanks.

January Newsletter - We skipped January, as there was no news of consequence.

Cans Collection Keep the aluminum cans coming. Drop them off next to the Mayor's driveway. Crushed or non-crushed, we'll take them all. Thanks to those who do crush. Balance now is $1,431

Community Building Construction Bids returned on several elements on construction of the City/Community Building were much higher than we estimated. In order to build the structure we had planned, without looking for more funds, we have decided to accomplish several elements with volunteer Parkerfield labor. There are many skilled, and available, workers in our city that can help with construction of the Office Area, basic wiring, and other elements. Once the building is up and dried-in, with all doors and windows installed, we will be asking for help. This will not be for several months though. We are close to approving the bids for the dirt work, concrete, building, and building erection. We will keep all posted in future Newsletters.

Community Building Financing We now have $125,000 in the Bank to get the job done. As you have noticed, the 5% Franchise Fee is being applied to your Gas and Electric Bills.

Community Building Donations We are working to complete the Community Building within our budget of $125,000, and expect to get the dirt work, septic, concrete, building, erection, plumbing, electric, HVAC, and office complex completed for under $125,000. However, there are additional items necessary to use the building as we intended. These include office furnishings, tables and chairs for the meeting bay, stove refrigerator-kitchen stuff for the kitchen, and whatever small additional items will be required. We have already received over $3,000 in donations for these items. That's in addition to the generous donation of the land by the Gottlob family. If you would like to make a tax deductible donation toward the completion of the City/Community Building, contact Mayor Mike on 441-0717.

Census Important Every household should receive a Census Form between March 15th and March 17th. If you do not receive a form, please call Mayor Mike on 441-8216. Please verify in your letter that the City is Parkerfield, not Arkansas City or Cowley County, answer the questions, and mail back to the Census Bureau. Be sure to mail it back, as the amount of Motor Vehicle taxes and Fuel Taxes that the City of Parkerfield receives depends partially on the population of our City. We have 158 residences and around 400 citizens.

Community Building Construction Bid acceptance letters and contracts were sent out the week of March 7th for elements 1-2-3-4-5-6-8, site prep, concrete work, the steel building, building erection, doors and windows, and plumbing, to allow the project to start. We expect the dirt work to begin in mid April and the building to go up late April to early May. Final completion will be May-June, or possibly July. We'll advise when we need help on completion.

Community Building Donations If you would like to make a tax deductible donation toward the completion of the City/Community Building, contact Mayor Mike on 441-0717. Over $3,000.00 has been received to-date. This will cover the furnishings, tables, chairs, etc.

Census The City of Parkerfield accomplished its own Census to ensure all residents were contacted and that all returned their US Census forms. Our tally of the 156 residences indicated around 398 residents. There were 10 residences who said they did not receive a form from the US Census or did not return the form. There were three residences which the US Census did not include in the Parkerfield Address List. We have requested the US Census to send forms to the 10 and to ensure the 3 are included in Parkerfield. Every body counts for fuel tax distribution and other activities. If you did not receive a form in April or a substitute form lately, please call Mayor Mike on 441-8216, so we can get you counted.

Community Building Construction We are waiting for RWD #3 to set the water meter and for Westar to set a service pole for electricity. The base for the building slab is done and the drain lines are in the base. Awaiting good weather to do the concrete slab, so the building, which is on site, can be erected. Kansas weather sure messes up construction.

Chestnut road work The major mud hole in front of Mrs. Hughes home on Chestnut has hopefully been eliminated. A month ago, a major rain left a 6-12 inch lake on Chestnut. The Township road crew, led by Mike Ledbetter did a major job to raise the road in that area and to correct the drainage. They dumped and sculpted much gravel and base material. Thanks to them for a good prompt repair.

Oaklawn Road Signs We have signs on order for the intersections of Oaklawn Drive and Birch Avenue and for the intersection of Oaklawn Drive and Oaklawn Court. The Township will install the signs when they arrive.

Community Building Donations If you would like to make a tax deductible donation toward the completion of the City/Community Building, contact Mayor Mike on 441-0717. Over $3,000.00 has been received to-date. This will cover the furnishings, tables, chairs, etc.

PARKERFIELD AUGUST 2010 NEWSLETTER

City Council Meeting Thursday September 16th 7:00 PM at the Creswell Township Building..

City Officials: Listed on the HOME page.

There were no June or July Newsletters, as there was little of consequence to say.

E-mail Addresses - If you receive the newsletter by U.S. Mail and have an active e-mail address, please advise the City Clerk at furbaw@wildblue.net of your e-mail address. Some residents may have changed ISP providers, and e-mail address, and not advised us of the change. Thanks.

Cans Collection Keep the aluminum cans coming. Drop them off next to the Mayor's driveway. Crushed or non-crushed, we'll take them all. Thanks to those who do crush. Please include only aluminum cans, and no tinfoil or other aluminum scrap. Balance now is $1,779

Community Building Construction RWD #3 has set the water meter. We are waiting for Westar to set a service pole for electricity. The building has been fully erected, gutters installed, and all concrete sidewalks, steps, and pads are complete. All doors and windows are installed. We are very pleased with the construction and colors. Still have to build the office/restrooms/utility/kitchen complex. That will take a month or two, as we will do all possible with volunteer help to keep the total project costs within our budget.

Community Building Donations If you would like to make a tax deductible donation toward the completion of the City/Community Building, contact Mayor Mike on 441-0717. Over $3,000.00 has been received to-date. This will help to cover the furnishings, tables, chairs, etc.

Arkalalah Visiting Queen 2010 Once again, we need candidates for the Visiting Queen from Parkerfield for Arkalalah. Applications must be received by the City Council before September 2nd. Contact Dorothy Tousley on 620-442-4700 for an application. The selected Parkerfield Visiting Queen will receive a Cowley College tuition scholarship for 2010/2011. Candidates must be 17 as-of January 1st, 2010 or a high school senior and not over 20, unmarried, have no children, and be a resident of our community.

2011 Budget We tried to hold the 2010 millage rate, but an increased road maintenance cost forced us to increase two mils. We will continue to have the lowest tax rate in the county.

Sales Tax Items delivered to Parkerfield are taxed at 6.8%, not the 8.8% of Ark City. Be sure to say Parkerfield, not Ark City when buying major appliances, furniture, or other high cost items which are delivered. However, automobiles are taxed at the rate of the placed they are sold at.

Oaklawn Road Signs Creswell Township has installed the signs for the intersections of Oaklawn Drive at Birch Avenue and Oaklawn Drive at Oaklawn Court. Now, Waste Connections, UPS, and pizza delivery can find those Oaklawn addresses.

Community Bulletin Board. Contact Steve Jelf at jelf1@cox.net if you have something to sell, give away, want to buy, or you are available for work or are looking for services.

 PARKERFIELD December 2010 NEWSLETTER

City Council Meeting Thursday January 6th 7:00 PM at the Parkerfield City Building.

Thanks.

There were no September through November Newsletters, as there were not significant items to pass on. Now we have items to review and consider.

Cans Collection Keep the aluminum cans coming. Drop them off next to the Mayor's driveway. Crushed or non-crushed, we'll take them all. Thanks to those who do crush. Please include only aluminum cans, and no tinfoil or other aluminum scrap. Balance now is $2,074. We'll use these funds for furnishings in the City Building. Tables and chairs alone will cost over $3,000.

Community Building Construction As you can see when by driving by, the structure is up. We hope to have it ready for occupancy and a Founders Day celebration in March. If you are driving by, and see any trucks parked there, stop in for a preview.

Community Building Donations If you would like to make a tax deductible donation toward the completion of the City/Community Building, contact Mayor Mike on 441-0717. Over $4,000.00 has been received to-date. This will help to cover the furnishings, tables, chairs, etc. To count as a 2010 tax deduction, you must get the check to Mayor Mike or the City Clerk before December 31st.

4-Wheelers on the Road One of the concerns when founding our city was the freedom to do as we wish, if it does not infringe on the lives or safety of others. Several times, we have advised 4-wheeler drivers that it is both unsafe and illegal to drive 4-wheelers carelessly on the City streets. Recently, a family pet dog was seriously injured by a passing vehicle, probably one of several 4-wheelers which were, at that time, speeding down Eastridge Drive. We are concerned with the safety of our children and pets, will speak again to those driving 4 wheelers, and will request the Sheriff enforce the state statute prohibiting driving 4-wheelers on City streets.

April 2011 Elections Council Members MaraLynne Schmitz, Sheri Ramirez, and David Brakebill terms expire in April and we will elect three Council Members. Members Schmitz and Ramirez will seek re-election, but Member Brakebill has chosen to not seek re-election. We need at least one additional candidate for a four year term beginning in April 2011. If you would like to be on the ballot, please contact the County Clerk in January.
